Feasibility study

Project overview

With its commitment to community relations, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) commissioned STS to conduct a feasibility study of U.S. Route 50 to determine the constructability of a four-lane expressway for 72 miles between Salem and Lawrenceville, Ill. The study also evaluated alternative improvements to minimize potential environmental and economic impacts.

Using GIS technology, STS mapped the study area data with economic and environmental overlays to use as a tool for assessing alternatives. To convey this information to the public, STS developed and implemented a Context Sensitive Solution program, using GIS maps to easily convey the study’s complex data in agency and public meetings.

Design and construction are not yet underway.
