Project overview

With large expansion plans underway, The Home Depot needed streamlined engineering support in the fast-track development of stores throughout the Midwest. Traditional methods of phase-by-phase procurement were impacting project schedules and causing a coordination burden to The Home Depot project managers.

Approach

STS supported The Home Depot in its Midwest expansion by providing an integrated package of environmental and engineering services. Specifically, STS provided:

  • Support to The Home Depot’s architect during site selection
  • Coordination of environmental work between The Home Depot and its attorneys
  • Integration of geotechnical engineering, civil engineering and construction services
  • Web-based training for construction technicians to assure specifications were met
  • Volume discounts to The Home Depot for multiple-site, multiple-phase projects

Client benefits

  • By offering multiple services at sites, STS eliminated the need to coordinate between consultants.
  • The Home Depot had a single point-of-contact for all consultant services.
  • Geotechnical and environmental investigations were conducted during the same mobilization, saving The Home Depot time and money.
  • Having completed the geotechnical and environmental studies at the sites, STS was able to handle soil suitability and environmental issues during construction.
